Lake Powell
Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado River. The Glen Canyon Dam, located in Arizona, was completed on September 13, 1963 and it took 11 years for the lake to reach its high water mark. It covers an area of 254.1 square miles and has a mean depth of 131 feet. Lake Powell was named after John Wesley Powell, a one-armed Civil War veteran who explored the Colorado river in 1869.
