Funding for NPS projects

There are many programs available to landowners and agencies to assist with funding for nonpoint source projects.  Some of these are listed below.

​Develop TMDLs, watershed plans and provide technical support for NPS related projects
Submit application to Utah Division of Water Quality
60/40 cost share.  Up to 60% of the project can come from 319, the rest must be non federal sources.
State NPS Funding
Funding from the Water Quality Board to reduce NPS Pollution.

Watershed Restoration Initiative (WRI)
A group of federal and state agencies working with NGO's, industry, local elected officials and stakeholders for water quality and yield, wildlife and agriculture
Utah Watershed Restoration Initiative
Project must relate to approved goals and objectives, mitigates a threat to land health, maximizes return on the investment
​Protect values important for our present and future quality of life: water quality and yield, wildlife and agriculture

​Blue Ribbon Fisheries Program
​Protection of BRF through collaboration with gov agencies and private entities, promote BFR among resident and nonresident anglers

Projects addressing population helath, fishing experience, habitat imporvement and have an economic benefit
​Enhance fish habitat, used with NPS funding to focus on stream bank restoration and riparian health

Expands number of grazing related projects rehabilitating our natural resources , increasing productivity and protecting the landscape

Increase water quality and quantity, added wildlife and livestock capacity and improve weed control

Agriculture Resource Development Loan (ARDL)
Financial assistance to agricultural producers through low interest rate loans.
Utah Department of Agriculture and Foods
Conserve soil and water, increase agricultural yields, maintain and improve water quality, conserve/develop on-farm energy, reduce damages to agriculture as a result of natural disaster, provide and maintain protection of crops for animal resources.
Improve natural resources or help improve the productivity of agricultural operations.

Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)
​Voluntary program providing financial and technical assistance to agricultural producers.
National Resources Conservation Service
Owners of land in agricultural or forest production, or persons engaged in livestock, agricultural or forest producation and have natural resource concerns
Financial assistance to help plan and implement conservation practices addressing natural resource concerns and opportunities to improve soil, water, plant, animal, air and related resources
